As many of you are aware, Thawr’s musalla on Aurora has been closed due to flooding. Due to a number of circumstances, the decision has been made to close the facility permanently. Alhamdulillah. Our resident scholar Sh. Hamza Chaudhry is still active and we hope to resume Thawr classes with him in the near future inshaAllah, albeit at a different location. Stay tuned via this website or our facebook page!

After receiving numerous reports of naked-eye sighting of the new crescent moon of Ramadan, in conformance with the sunnah of the messenger of Allah, sallallahu`alayhi wa sallam, and the ijma` of the noble scholars of Islam throughout the ages, Thawr Institute wishes you a blessed and accepted Ramadan, and reminds everyone to turn towards Allah, and not lose this sorely-needed, and most generous gift that Allah has sent us.

We only live once, and despite the pressures we feel, we make our own choices in life. Let us make such choices that when we stand in front of Allah we will be proud of ourselves and not ashamed.

Let us check email less often, sign out of facebook, rest our twitter accounts, turn off the images on our smartphone browsers, put our televisions into the closet, put away our i-pods/pads and revive the memory of the masjid, the book of Allah, the company of the righteous, and a life that has less entertainment and more purpose.

By Allah’s qadar, the musalla facility of Thawr Institute at 4033 has been flooded and rendered useless for the last three weeks or more. Until the situation is remedied, unfortunately, we will not be holding jumu`ah prayers, or the five daily prayers until further notice.

In addition, we sadly have had to cancel our previous arrangements to have a hafiz of the Qur’an come and lead the tarawih prayers.

We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your prayers during this time.

RIYADH AL-SALIHIN: JOURNEY ON THE PATH OF THE SUNNAH

A guide for the traveler on the way of Muhammad messenger of Allah. This class will feature a scholarly translation and commentary on Imam Nawawi’s hadith collection Riyādh al-Sālihīn, an authoritative guide for all who wish to live in conformance to the prophetic prescription to “Be in this World as if a Stranger, or A Traveler Down a Path.”

SPIRITUAL REVOLUTION: THAWR INSTITUTE’S RAMADAN AGENDA
JULY 15TH AND 16TH
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn the fiqh of Ramadan from world renowned speakers and scholars such as Mufti Muhammad bin Adam al-Kawthari, Shaykh Murabit Benavidez, and Shaykh Qasim Hatem. This weekend long program will serve to prepare the student for the legal and spiritual revolution of Ramadan. See thawr.org for more details.

TARAWIH
Tarawih prayers will be offered at Thawr’s musalla on Aurora each night during the month of Ramadan, after the`Isha’ prayer.  The prayer will be led by Hafiz Muhammad Basir from Chicago, comprising of 20 rak’at each night. In sha’ Allah, the Qur’an will be read in its entirety by the end of the blessed month.

JUMU’AH
Friday Jumu’ah is held at the musalla each week, beginning at 2:30 during daylight savings time.

ARABIC
Anyone interested in starting an Arabic class is encouraged to contact info@thawr.org. If enough people generate interest, as in the past, it is quite possible to start up an Arabic language class, as well as a class on grammar and morphology.

FIQH

Utilizing the Arabic text of Abu Muhammad ‘Abdullah ibn Abi Zayd al-Qayrawani’s ar-Risalah, penned in the 3rd century AH, this course offers the student a basic overview of Islamic Jurisprudence as formulated by the school founded by Imam Malik. According to its author, his Risalah was composed to address “what is obligatory in the dîn – those things which should be pronounced by the tongue and believed by the heart and done by the limbs…sunnahs which are associated with these obligatory actions – the confirmed (mu’akkadah), the optional (nafilah) and the desirable (raghibah)…the courtesies (adab) associated with them; along with certain key principles and derived judgments in jurisprudence (fiqh).”

Introductory Fiqh: Mondays 7:45 – 8:45 PM

This course introduce the student to the prophetic practices of ritual purity, prayer, fasting, zakat, hajj, and the law of slaughter and ritual sacrifice, all in great detail. All classes will be conducted using the Arabic text, which will be translated in class. Knowledge of the Arabic language is not a requirement to benefit from the class as all texts will be translated as they are taught, however, there is much benefit for students who can read and understand Arabic.

`Aqidah the Theoretical Foundations of Practice: Thursdays 6:30 – 7:45 PM

This course will begin with a rudimentary explanation of the `aqidah or creed of the people of the sunnah.  The study of `aqidah is incumbent upon every Muslim as within it contain the unadulterated understandings of Allah’s relationship to His servants from which the foundation of the believers is built. The course will then move on to a study of the theoretical foundations of practice as expressed in the heart and its states which form the foundations of tawhid, or the oneness of God.

Advanced Fiqh: Thursdays 7:45 – 8:45PM

This course will cover advanced topics such as marriage, divorce, business transactions, criminal law, the Islamic court, witnessing, inheritance and various customs of the sunnah. Knowledge of the Arabic language is not a requirement to benefit from the class as all texts will be translated as they are taught, however, there is much benefit for students who can read and understand Arabic. This course is ideal for the student who has mastered the material from the introductory course, however, if a student who has not previously taken or mastered the introductory course wishes to take the advanced course, they may do so, granted that they concurrently take the introductory course.

HADITH

Come and join us on Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 for an intensive course on the fiqh and spiritual aspects of Dhul-Hijjah. We will cover the fiqh of Hajj, `Id al-Adhha, the Takbir, and the `Id prayer. This course will be beneficial for all, irrespective if you are going on Hajj or not.
